501(c)(3)

The Palouse Ice Rink is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization — we are not funded by city taxes. We are governed by a volunteer board of directors and operated by a seasonal manager who handles day-to-day operations.

How We’re Funded

The rink’s operations are funded primarily through customer admissions, supplemented by grants, sponsorships, and private donations. We have received generous support over the years that has been critical to our survival and growth — including a $1 million contribution from the City of Moscow’s Bobby C. Hamilton Fund toward construction of the current rink facility. Total construction costs were approximately $7 million, well below the $13 million estimated for a comparable new build.

Grant funding is never guaranteed — we apply yearly, and many grants are available only once per lifetime. We do not maintain a continuous external funding stream. What keeps us open is the community: admissions revenue, generous donors, and volunteers who give their time.

How You Can Help

  • Pay admission — every session counts toward keeping the rink operational
  • Volunteer — we always need help with events, fundraising, and grant writing
  • Donate — contributions go directly toward operations and Phase 2 building projects
  • Sponsor — see our Advertise with Us page for opportunities
